An introduction to SystemTap

Breno Henrique Leitao (leitao@linux.vnet.ibm.com)

SystemTap is a tool that enables an easier way to debug and modify an application (including the kernel) on a running machine without the usual tedious process (modify, compile, install and restart). Due to these characteristics, many developers are very interested in learning more about it. This will be a hands-on introduction to SystemTap and how to use it for kernel debugging. We will introduce SystemTap (includes Kprobes) cover language references , probe points and tap sets as well as performance tuning using Guru Mode.
