Debian Project Status Update

Eric Dorland (eric@kuroneko.ca)

Debian lenny has been released, approximately on time. The project is not resting on its laurels though and already many improvements are set to make it into the next stable release "squeeze". New features in dpkg and around the handling of translations and piles of new software are in store.

Also covered will be a look at the current trends in the project, such as the migration to package management in various DVCS and changes in the project structure like the new Debian Maintainer status. The current state of various "hot button" issues within the project will be examined.

Finally, some discussion of next year's DebConf conference, which returns to North America for the first time since 2002. It routinely attracts hundreds of developers from around the world.
